Lessons learned are sometimes the hardest to remember. This is especially true when you try to apply the same model to something that, in the end, is completely different.

What I mean is that what works in one place may not work the same way some other place. That one needs to really consider the aspects that worked, the parts that didnt’ work, and how to bring them into harmony and both function in the best way for the project.

Its a premise you can apply to many things, family, business, school, study, and relationships… the list can go no and on.
One memory trigger I like to use is the axiom about the definition of crazy, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. There are no quick fixes to complex problems, so instead of lookign fro them, you need to look at the bigger picture and work from the outside in.

This came up recently in my own work in trying to assemble a study guide for myself on the Kabbalah, the Tarot, Astrology, and the symbolism of the Scottish Rite. There are a few out there that others have compiled, Regardie, Case, but the work only covers it from their particular perspectives. I needed to approach them from my own direction to determine how best they worked, and so far so good, I’m finding the path.

The biggest thing I’m seeing is the diversity between the paths, yet finding the similarities and connecting fibers that tell me I am on the right path.

At least for now.

Something I enjoy most about what I do is working with people.

To find the enthusiastic client and be able to nurture their passions is a great thing. Even on the reverse side of that coin, to help nurture a writer, a business owner, or an aspiring creative is an uplifting thing to do.

It can be a challenge though, espicially with clients who come from past coaches who did little to get to their source instead dragging out coaching for months (even years) without any real constructive directon, rather deflections and good humors about the possibilities.

Let’s face it, good work still takes hard work. Few among us are able to spin straw into gold like Rumpelstiltskin and those who have been duped into process month in and month out know all to well that that feels like.

I say all of this because I’m starting to work with a client and we have a goal, an achievable goal in mind with a beginning, middle, and an end, with measurable steps in between and a fixed cost.

It feels great!

One of the hardest things I ever set out to do was to produce my own book.

Not just the content, which was a feat unto itself, but the actual and physical crafting of the material within it. Soup to nuts, the cover, the layout, the fonts, the images, and the back cover, and then the foot work of getting an ISBN assigned, and getting it into the big retailers like Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

From a first step perspective, it was a huge learning curve with lots of pitfalls and places to misstep, where one wrong choice can create a mess like the one in the Gulf of Mexico with the Oil Spill.

The thing to keep in mind is that your work is an extension of you, how you see it through is the difference between avoiding the missteps and reaching the shore or having a series of missteps lead to the epic disaster that we see caused by BP Oil.

The work you create then is an extension of you, not in a literal sense, obviously you are not a collection of we pages or social media posts, or the assemblage of the leafed pages bound in a squared edge hardbound book. But in the creation of your own work, you impart a bit of your essence. You create a an immediate extension of you from that time in space.

How do you avoid the missteps in communicating your message?

By leveraging the knowledge of someone else who has already gone that route several times and knows how to navigate you around the reefs of how to self publish. Around the perils of establishing your on-line presence.

So when you set down to publish your own first book, what do you want the hardest thing to be?

Is the Texas outlook the shaper of the Western education system? It seems some conservative Board of Education members would like to think so, at least by leveraging their buying power as the largest Textbook buyer in the country, and where the money flows, so the ideas go.

You can read the whole story on Religion Dispatches – Art(ful) History in Texas

The broader question I see is rather than rely on one or two large textbook publishers, why don’t states (or districts for that matter) take to printing their own books, with their own curriculum and their own local ideals, with perhaps a set standard of things to be taught, established by board education?

With the costs of print on demand such, a district could produce a quantity of books as they needed, and as they need more, at a cost that would allow the student to take the book with them at the end of the year. Especially as the e-book readers are becoming more prevalent, an ambitious state could commission a text book of their own, mix and match with book publishing companies, or license the book files form the publisher and print the books as needed.

Lots of exciting possibilities.

“Lighthouses are more helpful than churches”
Benjamin Franklin

LVX House is one part service agent and one part portfolio, how else can you make a decision for your own work without seeing the work of those who are your trusted agents to help you succeed.

It also serves to help those looking for some guidance in posting, publishing, or communicating in the brave new medium of the web. Legacy publishing is important, but like the invention of the printing press, the ability to communicate to a wider audience is easier than ever before. And rather than spending the time to try and learn how to get your message into this space, we want you to concentrate on what you do best, talking about what your passion.

“Books are the carriers of civilization. Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill. They are engines of change, windows on the world, lighthouses erected in the sea of time.”
Barbara W. Tuchman

The name LVX House is a bit of conjuration between the Latin word for light: lux lucis and its obvious English paring of house which together creates the iconographic image of a beacon on a rocky shore line guiding boats to safe harbor. That is the service that LVX House is here to provide.

Your work is your message to the world, your creation, and with all new creations, it needs to be nurtured and nourished and raised to maturity. The guidance that we provide is the creation of your messages vehicle, be it a book, a website, a pod cast, a web video, or a traditional print book. But, unlike a legacy publisher, we support you to create the content yourself. We do the heavy lifting of setting up the materials, manage the day to days, set up the links and connections.

“Metaphysics is a dark ocean without shores or lighthouse, strewn with many a philosophic wreck.”
Immanuel Kant

Together, we design the unique look of your vision with a skilled and steady eye for stunning graphics. In may places, a picture really is worth a thousand words, and we want to make sure to capture every possible word.

Think of LVX House as your beacon to success in the dark, foreign, and rough waters of publishing in the digital age. Let us guide you through the rough waters

Create – Communicate – Facilitate – Repeat
